As one of the most popular portable vapes on the market, the Firefly has made quite a name for itself. We had to try this one out just to see what all the fuss was about. Read on to find out if we think it lives up the hype.

Design

This is a very small, sleek and rounded vaporizer, and it comes in a few different colors- black, grey and red. It definitely has that high-tech, modern feel we have come to expect from the more sophisticated vapes out there.

And it is quite portable, at only a few inches in size, you can take it anywhere and not be inconvenienced by its size.

The Firefly uses a convection methods rather than the conduction method that most vaporizers use to heat your herbs,. This means that the heat doesn’t come from a source that touches your herbs. Rather it comes from below your herbs and rises up to heat them from a small distance. This has the benefit of ensuring that your herbs are vaped and not combusted, cutting down on the chance of you inhaling any toxins. It also means that you don’t get a burnt taste with the draws you take.

On the downside, it usually means that the vaporizer takes longer to heat up to where it needs to be. To be able to vaporize your herbs from the distance, a convection vape will have to use more heat than a conduction one.

 

Use

Using the Firefly is a simple enough process. The herb chamber’s lid is magnetized, and you just slip it off to load it up.  After your put
 your herbs in the glass chamber, just slip it back inside the Firefly and close the lid back. Then turn on the power.

To activate it, you will need to hold down the heat button. This provides instant heat and vaporizes your herbs and creates that vapor you inhale. The longer you hold down the button, the more heat is applied and the hotter the inside of the chamber will become.

As it heats up, the glass bowl will become bright red. This is where the Firefly gets its name, and it’s a neat little trick that makes the unit visually interesting.

And even though the heat is instant, it is designed in such a way that as soon as you let off the button the heat stops and your herbs are saved from scorching. You really only need to depress the power button when you are inhaling. This keeps your throat from burning and makes sure that your herbs are vaped at the right temperature.

The herb chamber and the easy-open lid are all wide and able to accommodate easy cleaning. It won’t take much to get them looking spotless again, and they are far easier to clean than many other vaporizers that have narrow openings.

 

Performance

The Firefly has a battery life that is only good for about 20-25 draws. That’s not a lot, to be honest, but it makes up for it with its fast recharge time. It takes less than an hour to fully charge it. The herb chamber seems designed to work with the short battery life. It’s a small chamber that doesn’t hold more than 0.2g of ingredients.

That’s not much space at all, and it’s only good for 6 or 7 draws before you have to refill.

The Firefly is really made for people on the go who just need a quick vape before they move on again. If you need to vape more than few times before you get home and charge this thing, then you may want to get an extra battery. The batteries are replaceable, so if you carry a spare you’ll get a lot more out of the unit throughout the day.

We love how quickly the vapor is produced in this thing. With most other portable vapes you have to wait a minute or more to get it vaping. With this, you can vape instantly, with no wait time whatsoever. But, we would recommend that you do give it a little time to heat up before you vape. Just depress the power button for a few seconds before you take your first draw. This gives the device time to heat up the herbs and ensures that you get a strong vapor.

Otherwise, your herbs may not be fully cooked and you may get a mouthful of hot air instead. It’s not a big deal, but it does mean that when you first use it, you will need to warm it up.

The vapor quality is excellent. We experienced a tasty and clear hit of vapor each time we used it, even down to the last of our herbs.

There is plenty to love about the Firefly. We especially like how quickly it can go from resting in your pocket to providing you with great vapor. You would be hard-pressed to find a vape that is more convenient. It is really designed for people who want something portable that they can just take out and use at any moment, no matter how short that moment may be.

If you are tired of long wait times and confusing operating procedures the other vaporizers have, then the Firefly may just be what you need.
